Profile Explained

  • (1) Leave Carbon River Trail
  • (2) Yellowstone Cliffs
  • (3) Windy Gap
  • (4) Yellowstone Cliffs Camp
Starting From Ipsut Creek Campground (assuming that a Carbon River road closure has not added 3 to 5 miles each way) the trial first follows the Carbon River. At about 2 miles the trial forks across the Carbon River and turns left to follow the Northern Loop trail. From this point the trail shortly starts an unmitigated 3000 ft climb to Windy Cap.
